The 30 days leading up to Global Youth Service Day were full of inspiring youth-led projects around Central Iowa and beyond. Here are just a few examples of Global Youth Service Day projects from Iowa youth.
CFUM Backyard Boyz and Whyld Girls
CFUM teenagers held a carwash to raise money for residents of Flint, Michigan. Early in the semester they read the historical fiction novel The Watsons go to Birmingham, which takes place in Flint. Students gained a passion for the residents of Flint and began to research the recent water quality crisis. Proceeds from their "Saving Flint Carwash" will go towards purchasing water filters for residents affected by the water crisis.
South East Polk Got Bounce
The 23 students of the SEP Got Bounce club reached out to the entire student body at their high school to fill out compliment cards for faculty and staff. 400 cards were collected, and each staff member was able to receive at least one card to brighten their day.
